**What if... You Could Bathe in Riches?** 💰🛁✨

These are the oldest photos on my phone, taken on **July 25, 2024**, at **Leksaksmuseet**, the toy museum on **Skeppsholmen** in Stockholm. This moment features my friend **Magnus Boren**, fully dressed, sitting in a bathtub—not just any bathtub, but one overflowing with **fake money**! 😂💸  

This was all part of a **surprise birthday celebration** 🎉🎁. I had booked Magnus for the entire day, and he had **no idea** what was going to happen. Our adventure started at **Leksaksmuseet**, a magical place filled with nostalgic treasures from childhood. The museum showcases an **incredible collection** of toys, including **vintage dolls, action figures, model trains**, and even **Star Wars collectibles**! 🚂🪆🎭  

As we were about to leave, we spotted this **hilarious exhibit**: a bathtub filled with **gold coins and cash** 🛁💰—an homage to **Scrooge McDuck** (Joakim von Anka), the iconic cartoon billionaire who **literally bathes in money**! Magnus couldn’t resist the opportunity, so naturally, he **got in**—fully dressed! 🤣  

The moment was **pure fun, laughter, and absurdity**—exactly what birthdays should be! 🥳🎈 I love how this photo captures the **joy of spontaneity** and the **magic of unexpected adventures*

**What if a bag of salt could tell a story?** 🌿✨

This is the oldest photo on my phone, taken on June 10, 2024. It’s a simple bag of bath salt, but it carries a story. It was a gift from my friend Magnus Boren when he returned from a three-month stay in South America. He visited *Sal de Maras*, the ancient Peruvian salt mines in the Sacred Valley, where pink salt has been harvested since pre-Incan times. The salt is mineral-rich, hand-collected, and known for its mild, complex taste. 🌸🧂   

The packaging caught my eye immediately. It features a woman lying on her stomach, possibly with a flower behind her ear, and the word *Maracuyá* in bold green letters. *Maracuyá*—passion fruit—is a tropical gem, bursting with tangy sweetness and packed with vitamin C. The blend of salt and fruit essence makes this bath soak feel like a luxurious escape. 🌊🍋

Midsummer Memories at Djurgården

These are the oldest photos on my phone, taken on Midsummer 2023, June 23, at Djurgården in Stockholm. We were celebrating the long-awaited day with my friend Magnus Boren when, suddenly, a heavy rainstorm descended on us, lasting for about half an hour. In the photos, you can see Magnus, drenched but smiling, embodying the resilience of Swedish summer traditions. After the downpour, the sun finally reappeared, but none of us ever quite got dry again. The memory that stands out most vividly? Biking home in just my underwear because my pants were still so damp from the rain. 

These photos capture a moment of unexpected weather and the joy of embracing the elements, no matter what. Midsummer in Sweden is a time for celebration, connection, and laughter, and this day was no exception, even with the unpredictable rain.

Memories at Blenheim Palace

On May 21, 2023, I visited the magnificent Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire—the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first photo captures the palace's stunning Baroque architecture, a testament to its rich history dating back to 1705 when it was gifted to the 1st Duke of Marlborough after his victory at the Battle of Blenheim.

The second photo features me strolling through the expansive 2,000-acre grounds designed by Capability Brown. The lush gardens, serene Great Lake, and the iconic Grand Bridge create a picturesque landscape that seamlessly blends art and nature. Walking through the Italian Garden with its manicured hedges and classical statues was like stepping into a living painting.

In the third photo, I'm admiring the exquisite statues scattered across the gardens. These sculptures, inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, add a timeless elegance and serve as focal points throughout the estate, enhancing the overall aesthetic and historical ambiance of the palace.

The fourth photo is a fun snapshot of my friend Magnus meeting a replica of Winston Churchill. Standing beside one of history's greatest leaders, even in statue form, was an inspiring experience that connected us to the profound legacy of resilience and leadership Churchill left behind.

Lastly, I couldn't leave without some souvenirs! I picked up a bottle of Juniper Sling perfume by Penhaligon, a refreshing Cotswolds Garden Cocktail, a beautiful mug adorned with a gold print of the palace, and *The Glitter and the Gold* by Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan—a fascinating read about the American heiress who became the Duchess of Marlborough. Each item holds a special memory of this incredible visit.

Designed by the famous landscape architect Capability Brown in the 18th century, the grounds are considered one of his greatest masterpieces. Brown transformed the landscape into a naturalistic setting, with rolling hills, expansive lawns, and picturesque water features, including the serene Great Lake.

One of the most iconic features of the grounds is the Grand Bridge, which spans the lake and offers breathtaking views of the palace. The water terraces, located near the palace, are beautifully crafted with fountains and sculptures, providing a tranquil space for reflection.

The gardens at Blenheim Palace are equally impressive. The formal Italian Garden is a symphony of symmetry, with manicured hedges, colorful flowerbeds, and classical statues. The Secret Garden offers a more intimate space, with winding paths, vibrant plantings, and peaceful water features.

The grounds also include the Pleasure Gardens, a family-friendly area featuring a maze, miniature train, and butterfly house. Blenheim’s parkland is dotted with ancient oak trees and teems with wildlife, offering a serene and natural escape. Together, the grounds create a magnificent setting that complements the grandeur of Blenheim Palace itself.

The art at Blenheim Palace extends beyond its grand interiors and into its meticulously designed gardens, where statues play a significant role in enhancing the beauty and atmosphere of the landscape. The gardens are adorned with an impressive collection of classical statues that add a timeless elegance to the surroundings. These statues, many of which are inspired by ancient Greek and Roman mythology, are strategically placed throughout the formal gardens, water terraces, and parkland to create focal points and enhance the natural beauty of the setting.

One of the most notable areas featuring statues is the Water Terraces, where stone figures of classical gods and goddesses stand watch over the serene fountains and reflective pools. The Italian Garden, with its precisely arranged flower beds and geometric paths, is another highlight, where statues of mythological figures add to the garden's formal and regal atmosphere.

The Secret Garden offers a more intimate experience, with statues subtly integrated into the lush plantings and secluded corners. These sculptures not only serve as decorative elements but also create a sense of discovery as visitors explore the garden. Overall, the statues in Blenheim Palace’s gardens enhance the artistic and historical significance of the estate, blending nature with classical art in a harmonious and inspiring way.

Magnus meets Winston Churchill (Replica). Winston Churchill, born on November 30, 1874, was one of the most significant figures of the 20th century, best known for his leadership during World War II as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Churchill was a statesman, military strategist, writer, and orator who played a pivotal role in guiding Britain through the darkest days of the war.

Churchill's early career was diverse, serving as a soldier and war correspondent before entering politics. He held various positions in government, including First Lord of the Admiralty during World War I. However, it was his time as Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955, that cemented his legacy. 

Churchill's speeches, characterized by their powerful rhetoric and defiant tone, inspired the British people during critical moments, such as the Battle of Britain. His famous words, like "We shall fight on the beaches" and "Never surrender," remain iconic.

Beyond politics, Churchill was also a prolific writer, winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his historical writings. He passed away on January 24, 1965, but his legacy as a symbol of resilience, determination, and leadership continues to resonate globally.

What I got at the giftshop: 1:JUNIPER SLING was a quite expensive perfume by Penhaligon. Juniper Sling was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Cresp. Top notes are Juniper Berries, Orange, Angelica and Cinnamon; middle notes are Pepper, Cardamom, Leather and Orris Root; base notes are Vetiver, Sugar, Cherry and Amber. More than a year later, I still got most of it, since i seem to forget that I got it. 

2: a bottle of COTSWOLDS GARDEN COCKTAIL. This I finished as soon as I got back to the hotel. The refreshing Cotswolds Garden is one of our signature cocktails, inspired by the beautiful country gardens surrounding our distillery. Made with our award-winning Cotswolds Dry Gin paired with pressed apple and a hint of elderflower, our ready-to-drink Cotswolds Garden Cocktail is perfect served chilled or on the rocks and garnished with cucumber and mint. It's one of our favourites on long summer evenings here in the Cotswolds!

4: The book THE GLITTER AND THE GOLD by Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan. Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan was an American heiress who became a prominent figure in both American and European society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in 1877 to William Kissam Vanderbilt and Alva Erskine Smith, Consuelo was part of the wealthy and influential Vanderbilt family. Her mother, Alva, was determined to secure a prestigious marriage for her daughter, leading to Consuelo's highly publicized marriage in 1895 to Charles Spencer-Churchill, the 9th Duke of Marlborough.

The marriage was largely arranged and motivated by social and financial considerations, rather than love. Despite this, Consuelo's substantial dowry helped restore Blenheim Palace, the Marlborough family's ancestral home. However, the marriage was unhappy, and the couple eventually divorced in 1921.

After her divorce, Consuelo remarried French aviator Jacques Balsan, and the two lived a happier life together. She became a philanthropist, supporting various causes including education and healthcare, and was known for her grace, intelligence, and strong will. Consuelo also authored a memoir, *The Glitter and the Gold*, in which she reflected on her life in the upper echelons of society. She remains a fascinating figure of the Gilded Age, symbolizing the intersection of American wealth and European aristocracy.

5: A bottle of SKY WAVE GRAPEFRUIT BITTERS. Bitters are a very old tradition with gin. The original ‘pink gin’ used a few drops of Angostura Bitters to make the gin pink and with a slightly bitter flavour, long before the modern trend of coloured and flavoured gins. Sky Wave Grapefruit Bitters continues that tradition, and is a perfect complement to Sky Wave Gin, really bringing out the citrus flavours and enhancing our long lingering spiciness.

Just put 2 or 3 drops in your G&T using the built-in dropper, for fabulous extra flavour.

Visitors to the church can climb the narrow spiral staircase of the tower, which leads to a breathtaking panoramic view of Oxford. From the top, you can see many of the university's most famous buildings, including the Radcliffe Camera, All Souls College, and the Bodleian Library. The view is particularly stunning at sunrise or sunset, when the city is bathed in a warm, golden light.

Historically, the tower has been a witness to countless university events, including ceremonies and early exams. Its bells have rung out over Oxford for centuries, adding to the rich tapestry of sounds that define the city. The tower of St Mary the Virgin is not just an architectural marvel but a symbol of Oxford's enduring history and academic excellence.

The University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Oxford is a stunning example of Gothic architecture, with its intricate design and towering spire. The church's roof, a key feature of its construction, is an outstanding example of medieval craftsmanship. Constructed of timber, the roof is both functional and decorative, with finely carved beams and supports that add to the church's overall aesthetic. The roof structure is designed to span the large nave of the church, creating an open and spacious interior that is characteristic of Gothic cathedrals.

The general construction of St Mary’s reflects the typical Gothic emphasis on verticality and light. The church features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and large stained glass windows, which allow natural light to flood the interior, creating a serene and uplifting atmosphere. The stone walls are supported by flying buttresses, which transfer the weight of the roof outward, allowing for the inclusion of the large windows that are a hallmark of Gothic architecture.

The church's spire, which rises to 127 feet, is another highlight of its construction, serving as a focal point of the Oxford skyline. Together, these elements make the University Church of St Mary the Virgin a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a key symbol of Oxford’s architectural heritage.

The day after May, 21 2023, We are on a bus going to Blenheim Palace, and we pass this, the martyr's memorial. The Martyrs' Memorial in Oxford is a significant historical monument that commemorates the martyrdom of three Protestant bishops—Hugh Latimer, Nicholas Ridley, and Thomas Cranmer—who were burned at the stake during the reign of Queen Mary I in the 16th century. Located at the intersection of St Giles', Magdalen Street, and Beaumont Street, the memorial stands as a poignant reminder of the religious conflicts that shaped English history.

Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the memorial was completed in 1843 and is an excellent example of Victorian Gothic architecture. The monument is in the form of a tall, intricately carved spire, reminiscent of the style seen in many of Oxford’s historic buildings. It is adorned with statues of the three martyrs, each in a niche, along with inscriptions detailing their sacrifices.

The site of their execution is marked by a small cross on Broad Street, close to the memorial. The Martyrs' Memorial is not only a tribute to those who died for their faith but also a symbol of the struggle for religious freedom. It attracts both tourists and scholars, serving as a powerful reminder of the turbulent history that unfolded in Oxford during the English Reformation.

The first buses, known as "omnibuses," were horse-drawn vehicles introduced in France around 1823 by entrepreneur Stanislas Baudry. These early buses provided a regular service along specific routes, allowing passengers to board and alight at designated stops, revolutionizing urban transport.

In the 1830s, the concept spread to London, where George Shillibeer launched the first horse-drawn omnibus service in 1829, operating between Paddington and the Bank of England. These early buses were crucial in shaping the urban landscape, making it easier for people to commute across cities.

The introduction of steam-powered buses in the 1830s marked the next significant development. However, these were short-lived due to mechanical issues and the dominance of the railways. The real breakthrough came with the advent of the internal combustion engine in the late 19th century. The first motorized buses appeared in the early 1900s, offering greater speed and reliability compared to their horse-drawn predecessors.

The 20th century saw the bus become a staple of public transportation worldwide, with innovations such as double-decker buses, articulated buses, and low-floor designs enhancing accessibility and capacity. Woodstock, a charming market town in Oxfordshire, England, is steeped in history and rich in character. Located about 8 miles northwest of Oxford, Woodstock is best known as the gateway to Blenheim Palace, one of Britain’s grandest stately homes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town itself dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period and has a deep connection with the English monarchy, with King Henry II establishing a royal hunting lodge here in the 12th century.

Woodstock's narrow streets are lined with elegant stone buildings, many of which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The town's historic charm is complemented by a range of independent shops, traditional pubs, and cozy tearooms, making it a delightful place to explore. The Town Hall, built in 1766, is a notable landmark, reflecting the town's architectural heritage.

Woodstock is also home to the Oxfordshire Museum, which offers insights into the county's history, archaeology, and natural history. The museum is set in a beautiful 18th-century house with landscaped gardens. Surrounded by the scenic Cotswolds, Woodstock offers visitors a peaceful retreat with the allure of history, culture, and natural beauty. Its close proximity to Oxford makes it a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike.

It was originally the university's first building, where lectures, ceremonies, and even early exams were held. The church is known for its stunning Gothic architecture, including its beautiful spire, which towers over Oxford's skyline at 127 feet.

From this vantage point, you can see the city's famous "dreaming spires," the historic colleges, the Radcliffe Camera, and the lush green quadrangles.

These are the oldest photos on my phone, taken on May 20, 2023, during a holiday in Oxford, Great Britain, with my friend Magnus. 

The first photo captures us on a charming street near Oxford University, where a beautiful Laburnum tree, also known as the "Golden Chain Tree," stands in the background. Its vibrant yellow flowers create a cascade of color, making the scene even more picturesque. Laburnum trees are admired for their beauty but are also known for their toxicity, which adds a bit of intrigue to this stunning backdrop.

The next photo features a historic house at Merton College, adorned with a lovely yellow rose bush climbing up its ancient walls. Merton College, one of Oxford’s oldest and most prestigious institutions, has a rich history dating back to 1264. The college’s medieval architecture and serene gardens are simply breathtaking, making it a perfect subject for photography.

In the third photo, flowers are blooming on the walls of Merton College, adding a touch of natural beauty to the historic setting. The peaceful atmosphere of the college's gardens and the stunning medieval buildings make Merton a true gem in Oxford.

Another snapshot from our trip shows beautiful houses on St. Aldates, a bustling street in Oxford’s city center. St. Aldates Street, named after an early English saint, is rich in history and charm, lined with a mix of historic buildings and modern establishments. It’s a place where the past and present blend seamlessly, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Finally, the last photo is a close-up of St. Aldates Tavern, a classic British pub known for its cozy atmosphere, real ales, and delicious pub fare. Located on St. Aldates Street, the tavern is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a quintessential Oxford pub experience.

An Unforgettable Night at the Opera

These are the oldest photos on my phone, taken on February 21, 2023, at the Royal Opera in Stockholm during a performance of Stephen Sondheim's musical *Sweeney Todd*. This was kind of a big deal since the Royal Opera rarely stages musicals, focusing mostly on ballet and operas. Unfortunately, the show was a huge disappointment. It was really, really bad—the worst production of *Sweeney Todd* I've ever seen.

The first photo is of me and my friend Magnus outside the opera, with the enormous banner for the show in the background. The second photo captures us in the auditorium, still smiling because the show hadn't started yet. The third and last photo is of the Royal Orchestra, highlighting that we sat in the absolute first row.

These photos tell the story of a night filled with high expectations that quickly turned to disappointment. Yet, they also capture the excitement and anticipation we felt before the show started. The Royal Opera, with its grand architecture and historic ambiance, provided a beautiful backdrop, even if the performance didn't live up to it.

Featuring myself and Magnus, these photos capture a moment of shared experience and friendship. Despite the disappointing show, we enjoyed our time together, laughing about the absurdity of it all later on.

The emotions in these photos range from excitement and anticipation to frustration and amusement. The Royal Opera's rare venture into musical theatre was a bold move, even if it didn't pay off this time. Sitting in the front row was a unique experience, providing an up-close view of the orchestra and the stage.

These photos are meaningful to me because they remind me of the importance of shared experiences, even when they don't go as planned. Magnus and I have been friends for years, and this night added another chapter to our story of theatre adventures.
