What if... my best theatre nights always started with vegan kebab?

On January 21, 2024, a crisp Stockholm evening 🌆, I biked over to Le Kebab (Upplandsgatan 51, near Odenplan 🚲) for a pre-show dinner that honestly deserves its *own* standing ovation. On my plate? The dreamiest vegan kebab you can imagine: sizzling strips of seitan, crispy fries, rich and creamy vegan cheese sauce, juicy pomegranate seeds, slivered red onions, and a fresh, crunchy salad 🥗🌶️🍟.

And the reason I was carb-loading? I was about to see the *first preview* of the Swedish production of *Dear Evan Hansen* 💙 at Oscarsteatern! Sitting with me at dinner were Lisa (our backstage production superstar 👏) and my friend Martin, who’s produced a few incredible shows himself 🎭. There’s nothing like the shared buzz of theatre people getting ready for something *big*.

What if nostalgia had a taste?

A plate of something delicious—or at least, it *was* back on August 5, 2024. I honestly can’t remember what I made, but let’s break it down: on my cobalt blue Höganäs plate, there’s a heap of filled pasta (vegan ravioli? Tortellini? Maybe dumplings?). Alongside, crispy fried courgette slices, a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds, a generous dusting of vegan parmigiano, and loads of fresh mint. Whatever it was, I was clearly feeling fancy.  

Back then, I was still subscribing to a Swedish vegan magazine and trying out all their recipes. That magazine is gone now, and so is a bit of my adventurous spirit in the kitchen. I mean, I’m still vegan, just… a little less *experimental*. Maybe it’s time to change that?  

The plate itself has its own little story. Over 20 years ago, when I was working at Hamburger Börs, I started collecting Höganäs ceramics—one piece per month, right after payday. It was my way of reminding myself that all those long hours amounted to *something*. This plate is a piece of that memory.
