What if Backstage Moments Could Tell Their Story?

This photo, captured on November 25, 2023, takes me back to countless backstage memories at the theater. It features my talented colleague and friend, Sabina Donsér, a dedicated sound engineer who’s been a pillar in our productions since *Dirty Rotten Scoundrels* (*Rivierans Guldgossar*) premiered at Cirkus back in 2007. Sabina, cool and composed, stands in the wings on stage right, sunglasses on and sporting her trusty black fleece sweater, ready to make the magic happen behind the scenes.

Behind Sabina, on the left, are props for the show, each carrying its own small history from performances past. To the right, in full costume for the opening number, are two incredible acrobats and actors, Petter Mario Skoglund and Emilia Brown, waiting for their cue. The fishnet stockings they’re wearing have seen better days, having been mended more times than I can count—a testament to the intense lives of these costumes and the enduring energy of each performance.

This moment means a lot to me. It not only captures Sabina’s professionalism and the theater’s behind-the-scenes charm but also the camaraderie and dedication of everyone involved in bringing a production to life. The first picture on my phone, this image is also a snapshot of memories with Sabina and a world where creativity meets hard work and passion night after night.

 

This picture reminds me of the thrill and the quiet anticipation backstage, as we all work together to prepare for the magic that awaits the audience. For me, it’s a moment filled with pride and nostalgia, bringing back the unique joys and challenges of the theater.

This photo is special because it’s not just about that single night but about the years of dedication, teamwork, and joy that Sabina, our cast, and I have shared. It’s a reminder of why we keep returning to the stage.
