What If... the Makeup Artist Became the Star?

David is not only the talented makeup artist and wig designer behind so many transformations on stage, but he also takes on a unique role as an understudy in the show. In his 60s now, David still brings the energy and physique from his days as a dancer, which he uses to make occasional cameos in productions. In this show, he steps in as the stage manager when Joakim Jennefors, the main actor for this role, takes on the lead for Tommy Körberg. It’s a fascinating chain of talent and teamwork!

 The photo is set backstage, where you can feel the mix of focus and excitement. David stands confidently in his stage manager costume, embodying the character with a natural ease that comes from years of experience, both on stage and behind the scenes. Born in the U.S. and now living in Stockholm for over four decades, David brings his own stories and depth to each role he takes on. When he’s not at the theatre, he’s enjoying life with his husband on a serene island in the Swedish archipelago, a peaceful contrast to the lively theatre world.

This photo is meaningful to me because it shows a rare side of David, embodying a character on stage rather than helping others step into their roles. It’s a reminder of how interconnected and versatile we are in theatre, where each of us can play multiple parts, sometimes both literally and figuratively.
