What if Jonas Forgot the Mustache?

This is the oldest photo on my iPhone, taken on December 16, 2023, stage right backstage at the theatre. It captures Jonas Schlyter mid-preparation for the evening’s performance. He’s in full costume as the drag queen with a mustache—though the big, fake mustache hasn’t been added yet, so what you see is 100% Jonas.

In this moment, Jonas is fastening his extravagant necklace, standing right next to Gustav’s sound station. Strangely enough, there’s no head mic on Jonas—maybe he’s waiting until the wig is on to add it? It’s a little odd. Behind him, on the shelf, you can spot Tommy Körberg’s enormous banana hat, waiting for its turn in the spotlight during the iconic banana number.

This photo brings back a mix of nostalgia and curiosity. It’s a snapshot of the small backstage rituals that bring theatre magic to life. As someone who works behind the scenes as a dresser and costume supervisor, I love these candid moments that showcase the teamwork, quirks, and details that audiences rarely see.

The other photo is this text as an image.
