These photos are the oldest on my phone, capturing a precious moment shared with my friend Ulf Nordlander. It was taken on August 15, 2019, at Stenåsa Camping on the picturesque island of Öland, Sweden. Ulf and I were visiting my cousin Carina Bergman and her fiancé Åke, who were spending their summer in a cozy caravan parked on a nearby caravan site. We stayed with my parents in the charming village of Mörbylånga, a short distance away.
The motivation behind capturing these photos was twofold: to create lasting memories of a beautiful day and to document a special moment shared with a dear friend. The images reflect the carefree spirit of that sunny day and the bond between Ulf and me, which has strengthened over the years. For a decade, we have made it a tradition to visit my parents on Öland during the summer, often reuniting with Carina and Åke.
On the day these photos were taken, we had embarked on an adventure, exploring several second-hand shops on the southern part of Öland. It was during this exploration that we discovered the floating blue plastic docks, which beckoned us to step out onto the shimmering waters. Prior to this, we had ascended a birdwatcher's tower, from which we had a stunning view of these inviting docks.
In the pictures, it appears that Ulf and I are alone on the docks, but as I reflect on these images, I notice a woman and a child in the background on some of the other docks. This discovery adds a delightful touch of shared moments among different visitors to the area.

In the months following this day, the world would witness the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which would impact countless lives. Alongside these global events, both Ulf and I would face personal losses, including the passing of Ulf's parents and my beloved aunt, Cina's mother.
