Hat No 16

 This is actually not a hat I bought, either second hand or new. I found it! At work, when I used to work at Oscarsteatern in Stockholm. Sometimes, on the days when there is no show, they rent out the space, and I think this hat is left on one of those occasions. I asked everyone about it, but after two months I decided it was mine to keep. The label says PICKED LAST and it’s a company that are against bullying.

Hat no 15

 So this is another second hand find, and it might be a kids size, because it is very snug. This is not one of my favorite beanies, especially for winter and late autumn, because it isn’t really that warm. But it’s great looking to anything denim. I’ve never felt bad for loosing my hair. I started shaving it off long before it started thinning, so I’ve never really had to face my balding scalp. Some men, when they lose their hair start wearing hats, to cover up the fact, so, since I’ve never really thought my shaved head was something that I felt ashamed for, I never really wore hats indoors, just to not give that impression. But I think I might start to wear beanies indoors, because this one is really becoming.

Hat no 14

 This is also a hat I did not buy second hand. I can’t remember at what store, but the label says Nyden, so I guess I bought it at AFound. But - again - I’m not sure if I bought it at their stor on Drottninggatan, in the centre of Stockholm , or if I found it in the store in Skärholmen, one of the suburbs where I used to bike, to check out second hand stores, and Ikea, situated nearby. And of course, Dollarstore. One must never forget Dollarstore. Anyway, I love the color, and the fit, although the yellow is a shade too blue for me to really love it. 

Hat no 13

I haven’t got many hats that are gifts, but this one is! One day, as I was walking around in the neighborhood I noticed a newly opened restaurant. And a  vegan restaurant at that! Sure, I live in a kinda progressive/hipster area, so vegan food is not uncommon in restaurant, but totally vegan restaurants are! Unfortunately I had just had lunch that day, but I made a mental note to come back there soon, and within a week a managed to drag my friend Ulf out for a walk and we ended up att EASY VEGO. We had a great lunch, I remember I had some sort of stew with a fantastic accompanying bread, which was all mina although Ulf thought half of it was it. Anyway, suddenly the salesperson came up to our table with the gifts of a white beanie, each. I now realize I forgot to ask if there was any celebration: but I just put the hat on my head, made some cute instagram stories and I’ve been wearing the beanie ever since. i need go back, by the way. Not for a new hat, but for the great food.

 

Hat no 12

Ain’t this a beauty? I bought it second hand, I think at EMMAUs near Slussern on Söder in Stockholm, and I assume it’s a woman’s hat, but I don’t care. It’s got drama and I feel positively Russian in it. I don’t wear it often. But when I was working at the musical SÅ SOM I HIMMELEN at Oscarsteatern in Stockholm, I alway biked to work, and once a man in a car stopped and told me that I had a great hat. Thant was a proud day. The only problem with it is that I can’t wear my headphones and the hat simultaneously.

 

Hat No 11

This is also a second hand buy, but I can’t remember form where. Maybe, I would guess I found it at Myrorna, on Norrtullsgatan in Stockholm. 

Somehow the stipes reming me of the cat in at hat’s hat, although I know that the colors and the shape of the hat is different. Would you believe me if I said I’ve never read or seen the story of the Cat in a Hat?

Anyway, the letters on the says NEFF, and just now, when I googled ”neff beanie striped orange purple” I learned that NEFF is a company that makes a hell of lot of beanies, and a lot of other stuff, like bermuda shorts and shirt with great patterns, like yellow plastic ducks, or pink parrots. I have to go. I have some clothes to order on-line…

 

Hat No 10

This hat is a second hand buy, and I think I bought it at the same time I bought Hat no 2, but I’m not sure. I like that it’s rather large, has a tassel, but I wasn’t crazy about the blue stripe, so I folded the brim so that the stripe wouldn’t show. I even sewed it at certain points. I think I could have done a better job, since it still shows. Maybe sew all around the edge? I believe this is the only tassel beanie I own.

Hat no 9

Of all my beanies, this i my favorite, and the most expensive. It’s from COS, bought in their store at Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, but I think it was on sale. I hope it was on sale. Well, even if it wasn’t on sale, it was a good buy, because it’s the one you’ll see in most of my photos. I love this shade of yellow. Bright, light, a little tart. Your almost expect the beanie to smell of lemon.

My friend Ulf and I often go to that stor to shop. Well, he goes to shop, I go to see if they have something nice on sale that would be impossible to live without. And to tell Ulf what he should buy and what not. He very seldom listens, even though I tell him that he only should buy things that does not look like he already got two or three similar items. But his taste is very specific, and he can argue why he would need a tree button grey cardigan, although he got an almost identical, four button cardigan at home.

I thought that most of my beanies and hats was second hand, but here’s another that was bought brand new. This one’s from H&M, and I’m not sure when I bought it. 2019? 2018? It’s one of my favorite hats. And orange is one of my favorite colors. But I used to prefer lime green. I bought everything I could find that had that color, even stuff I really didn’t need. In my previous apartment i even painted the walls and ceiling in the kitchen lime green. And the doors to all the cabinets. Everything was lime green, even the tablecloth. So if you put something down on the table, and that thing was lime green, you almost couldn’t see it. It dissapeared.

It hasn’t gotten quite that bad with orange. I have a few orange things in the kitchen, like bowls, a colander and a tray. But I’ve learned from previous experiences: a little goes a long way: if you want something to stand out, don’t crowd it with stuff that looks exactly the same.

Hat no 7

This hat was not a second hand find, it was a gift from my friend @mrbuskis, who used to manage a Dunkin’ Donut at Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, before they went bankrupt, and he was given a lot of stuff. And he gave a lot of stuff to me, though this hat was maybe not one of my favorite things. I’ve never worn it, but I’ve kept it because was a gift and  it’s so tight that I think it could fit under a bicycle helmet, if I ever get around to buy one.

The first time I had a Dunkin’ Donut donut was when I and @magnusboren was in New York. I wanted to buy one every day we were there, but it wasn’t until the very last night that I got around to going in to a store, and then I bought a giant box, and ended up throwing out a lot of unfinished - but tried and tasted - donuts. It was too much, too sweet, to quick. 

I was surprised how expensive they were. In American movies they always seem to buy them buy the box, to give away and share, as if they cost nothing. The Dunkin’ Donut franchise was a brief affair in Sweden. Maybe the timing was wrong. Or, maybe it’s a cultural thing. We’re a people of cinnamon buns, not of deep-fried balls of doe.

Hat no 6

This hat is one of the few hat’s I have that is not bought second hand. It’s actually knitted by a my mother’s cousin, Nina, @Rapsvägen_11. She still lives in the village I come from, Mörbylånga, on an island called Ölands, in the south of Sweden. I lived there until I was in my late teens, when I moved to the nearest big city, Kalmar, to study. You wouldn’t believe it, but I studied economy. 
I think I got this hat as a christmas present 2019, and it’s one of my favorites. Mostly because of the shape: where a lot of beanies are shaped like socks without heels, kinda narrow and long, this one is shaped more lika a bow: it’s wide but long enough to cover my ears. It’s not so densely knitted, so it’s not too warm. If I was cooler - as in more hip - I would wear it inside. But it’s great to have a hat that is one of a kind.

Hat no 5

 I’m almost certain I bought this beanie in 2019, in early autumn. I remember I hade a shopping spree when I bought four or five beanies, mostly because there were so many of them at the store. But maybe it was in autumn 2018, when I really started my color and pattern obsession. Since I work backstage at a theatre, we wear black all the time, and I used to wear muted colors, thinking it was more posh and classy. More ”fashionable”. But then I thought: ”Fuck it, I’m not classy or posh, let’s have some fun!!” This hat is tiny, and I accentuated it’s size by rolling it and then sewing down the rolled ”hem”. It’s perfect for when I have my earphones on, because it does not go over my ears. And to tell the truth it’s mor of a fascinator than something to keep me warm.

Hat No 4

This beanie is - like most of my other hats and beanies - a second hand find. I think I bought it in 2017, at the charity shop Myrorna in Ropsten in Stockholm.

Have you noticed that it doesn’t say GREASE, it says GREASY, with a Y. When I bought the beanie I just thought it was a novelty thing, a joke on the movie, but then, for fun, I googled it - I don’t know why - and it turns out it’s merchandise for the black comedy horror film THE GREASY STRANGLER, from 2016. I have not seen this movie. And since I’me easily scared - the tv-show SIX FEET UNDER was agony sometimes, and I often watched the tv-series HEROES on mute - there no chance in hell I will. 

Once, when I was wearing it at another second hand shop, the salesman told me it -with a nod towards my hat - that It was a great film. I, thinking he was talking about THE GREASY STRANGLER, said I had never seen it, and he said, with the natural condescending air of an older gay talking to an older, that it was weird that he had seen it, but I who was so much older, had, not. It was a pleasure to explain to him that he had misread my beanie, and that I - who was older - knew more about recent trivia than he did.

Hat no 3

Hat number 3 in my hat collection. I buy almost all my beanies second hand, and this one is no exception. I think I bought it at Myrorna in Adolf Frediks Kyrkogatan in Stockholm.

The letters say STROH, from which I draw the conclusion that this is some kind of merchandise for the Austrian Stroh Rum.

When I was young, like in my teens or early twenties, Stoh Rum was much talked about, because the alcohol content was so high. 80%! Of course no one could get their hand on a bottle, being to young - not that I tried very hard - but in my mind it grew kind of legendary. And I somehow confused it with moonshine. 

But I bought this one because of the color. Orange is one of my favorite. It not THE favorite.

Hat number 2

This is hat Number 2 in my hat collection. I bought this beanie in the Emmaus second hand shop close to Slussen on Söder in Stockholm, on my way to work at the Swedish musical SÅ SOM I HIMMELEN at the Oscars theatre, where I work as a dresser. I think it was late autumn 2018. Might have been 2019, but I feel like I’ve had it longer than that. On my way to work, I almost always stops at one of the many second hand shops along Hornsgatan, or sometimes the many second hand shops around Skanstull. Sometimes I take another way to work, and go for some of the shops on Kungsholmen, another big island in Stockholm. My bike give me freedom.

Hat number one

This is hat number one in my hat inventory. It’s black, kinda slim, larger than I remembered, until I realized I got it confused with my merchandise hat from the London production of Billy Elliot. This one says ALAS POOR YORICK, which is a quote from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. I bought it in London, November 28th, 2017, at the gift shop at Shakespeare’s Globe, where at, their smaller stage Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, I and my friend Magnus boren saw one of the best shows we’ve ever seen: Romantics Anonymous. We also saw Toxic Avenger, The Woman in White, Young Frankenstein, Big Fish and Cinderella on Ice
