This is the Oldest Photo on my Phone, taken on July 2, 2023, at the beach of Degerhamn on the Swedish island Öland. The photo features my friend Ulf Nordlander walking along the pebbled beach, cigarette in hand, while snapping pictures on his iPhone. We were out enjoying the contrast of the steely, dark clouds that kept rolling in while the summer sun simultaneously cast its light over the scene. The mix of light and shadows, combined with the rugged pebbles and calm sea, created a surreal atmosphere. This moment perfectly captured the duality of nature—stormy yet calm, dark yet bright.
We were in Öland visiting my parents for a weekend getaway. Ulf, always fascinated by the dramatic skies, couldn’t resist capturing the view. This beach is known for its peaceful atmosphere, with few tourists around, and it was a perfect place for us to take a breather from city life.
